Notes About The Poem

The 2026 Olympic medal design is inspired by the Dolomites mountain chains. The dented surface isn’t just a hat-tip to the mountain’s uneven terrain but is also reminiscent of the constant work, perseverance, and unrelenting effort on the part of each athlete who participates in the Olympics.

FIELD OF OLYMPIC DREAMS

Opening ceremony, a grand display of nations~
honors Olympians, their bodies flagpoles for their country’s pride.

Ester Ledecká, a master of Super G, a flawless dance—  
gravity her only rival, the snow a willing partner in the waltz.  

Lightning Lindsey Vonn flies down the mountain’s spine~  
then a snap; pole breaks; the agony of defeat lingers.  

Nathan Chen’s blades glide, elegant lines on the ice~  
his leaps artistic perfection. 

Johannes Thingnes Bø steadies his rifle~ 
his bullets streaking through the Alpine pines.  

Yuzuru Hanya hangs midair~ 
a weightless wonder dissolving into Olympic gold.  

The gold medals are more than shine-a reverent silence~  
the podium a legacy, a testament of Olympic history

I am glad you went in this direction with your work. I have seen some spots on the news about the Olympics, but I have not just watched it as it was happening. I am not much into sports but so many people of the world are. Sara K
