Fathers Day

From the first moment we met After the war was over, To the time I buried you, How I feared and yet loved you. Everything I ever did Regardless how hard I tried, Somehow, was never enough. Dad, I never felt your love All I felt were angry fists, Yet, mom said, it did exist. (Acrostic) 5/15/2021 A TRIBUTE TO FATHERS Poetry Contest Sponsored by: L MILTON HANKINS

How sorrowful it must be for a child to have this kind of relationship with a father. Congratulations on your win, Emile.

Thanks Jenna, I wanted to be close to my father, but he was still fighting his war and never allowed me to, my friend, Emile.

This is a painful write, Emile. I am sorry to say my father was the same way. In his case, to many children to feed. He would get off of work clean up and straight to the bar. My write was about my husband and how my boys felt about him. Congratulations on your win. Enjoyed reading. My warmest wishes. God bless you. <3

Thanks Eve, my father had 13 children and only one, my sister Patty, the youngest, ever felt a connection with him, but we all loved mom she was our link to normalcy, Emile.

Congrats! Thanks for sharing this reality in your poetic way. I minister to children who testify about "parent-caused hurts" and such is indeed heart-wrenching. Nonetheless, what brings comfort is the love of the Father Almighty. By the way, I say "Amen" to your last line, "Yet, mom said, it did exist." God bless you.

There are those poems on Poetry Soup that have the power to stop and silence me due to their poignancy and sadness. This winning poem is one of those and more. Congratulations on your win Emile in Milton's contest. Cheers - Gary
