Father Over the Phone

I have little memories of you as a child
Of course, the memories are being formed now
Mama never held onto a job, I'm sorry
You pledged to help each other but she forgot the vow

You were always working when I was little
I loved hearing your voice when I was feeling alone
You were basically my best friend
You were basically my father over the phone

You will never know I wrote this because
Well, you're too damn protective
But you're just trying to keep me
From online stalkers playing detective

I have gone through heartbreak
Because of those close to me
But you're rare bear hugs
Made me not fear and flee

I wish Mama had helped you more
But I know this is now a better home
Now I can see you every day
You're no longer my father over the phone

Dedicated to my amazing, hard-working father.

ISabel L., , Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@"=0

Hello, I have loved poetry ever since I was a very little girl. I had an extensive Dr. Seuss collection, haha. I love writing poetry. My teachers have told me that I have great skills and if I truly do, I'm sure it will show in my future poems. I kind of think of them on the spot, but I feel like if I try to hard, it takes away from the emotion, which is why I write poetry. Anyways, thank you for being so welcoming, with writing being my biggest passion, I need a good community of people who don't try to be haters so I can grow and gain experience. Your new poet friend, Isabel :)

Awwww, so adorable! I'm glad you have such a great relationship with your dad, many people take it for granted. Awesome poem, keep 'em coming!
