Farewell To Crack Cocaine

FAREWELL TODAY TO CRACK COCAINE; IT FINALLY CAME ALONG.
SO MANY YEARS YOU INTERFERED, YOUR STRENGTH WAS OH, SO STRONG.
I HAD A JOB, PROVIDED WELL, GOD SHELTERED WITH HIS LOVE.
YOU SHOWED UP EVERY TIME IT SEEMED, REGARDLESS OF ABOVE.
I WENT TO WORK EACH DAY ON TIME, AS HARD AS IT WOULD BE,
SOMETIMES I CHOSE TO STAY AT HOME 'CAUSE YOU WERE THERE WITH ME.
SO LONG IT TOOK FOR ME TO SEE THE WICKEDNESS IN YOU;
I THOUGHT EACH TIME I TOOK A HIT, I'D SEE A BETTER VIEW.
THE MONEY CAME AND MONEY WENT, I KNOW JUST WHEN AND WHERE,
THE CHILDREN DIDN'T GET IT THOUGH...I DIDN'T EVEN CARE
I SEE YOU NOW FOR WHAT YOU ARE, PURE POISON TO MY MIND;
THE GRATITUDE I HAVE FOR THIS, GOD REALLY IS SO KIND.
THEN TIME HAD PASSED AND I RELAXED AND DRIFTED JUST A BIT
AND WHEN I WASN'T LOOKING, YOU TOOK A TIGHTER GRIP.
HOW DARE YOU DO THIS AWFUL THING, YOU NEVER GO AWAY!
BUT I WILL FIGHT AND STAY IN TOUCH AND REALLY, REALLY PRAY.
THAT'S SOME PLACE, I KNOW IT NOW, I NEVER WANT TO BE.
SO WITH MY GOD, MY PRAYERS AND FRIENDS, YOU'LL NEVER BE WITH ME.
YOU'RE SO CUNNING AND SO BAFFLING, AND I'M MOST OF THE TIME BLIND
BUT WITH GOD'S GRACE I'LL FIGHT IT, ONE DAY AT A TIME.

This is excellent and the like the flow of the words. You are certainly fighting back against the monster trying to take over your mind. I like the expressiveness of this poem, and I wish you much success. Great job! Joseph
