Family People
I cannot go back to Africa,
My roots are in America
Where I was born, raised, and married.
When my grandparents told stories
Of a land across the ocean,
I dreamed with them of going there.
Memories fade like names engraved in stone.
And I can’t go back to Africa;
America is my home.
