Falling Through the Crack
Within our system there is a crack,
And all of those who fall within may never make it back.
It may manifest in childhood, or later on in life,
But guidance spurned and backs when turned cut deeper than a knife.
Who was helping Mary, or Peter, or John,
But in the pain of latter life what conclusion could be drawn.
That someone wasn't watching, or paid no heed to signs,
Teachers, parents and all the rest didn't read between the lines.
So all that's left are fear and tear for life left out of tune,
And in the wake of so great mistake the broken hearts are strewn.
