Fallen
Down from what sweet
heaven's hall
did this wondrous Angel fall
to this sour earth
to cast a pall
and cease the mirth
of one and all?
What fearful, unjust travesty
has compelled her lithe, sweet
majesty
to be chained upon this craggy
place
and forced to kneel with
downcast face?
What force condemned
her frail frame
to days of suffering without
end
the sentence meted without
shame
to days of torment,
each the same?
Her Angel's wings useless, as
if clipped
her soft cries muted and tight
lipped
by no hero will her bonds be
slipped
she's ere to be bound in their
iron grip.
And yet.... salvation is in
proximity;
she holds so close that which
may set her free,
this question shall ring for an
eternity;
pray, why does her hand not
turn the key?
