Eyes That Listen
With eyes that listen when my ears cannot
I feel things others never get to feel,
I see the world for what others do not.
The cluttered world of sound described as fraught
I wouldn’t know. Mine’s quiet, honest, real
With eyes that listen when my ears cannot.
I won’t be ungracious, and I thank God
In the silence of my own mind’s appeal
I see the world for what others do not.
I convey what sound junkies long forgot,
like listen deep, and empathize for real
With eyes that listen when my ears cannot.
And my tone uncontrolled but I will not
Be ashamed. Nothing about me is unreal;
I see the world for what others do not.
And because my voice fails, my heart says a lot;
My hands shouting the endless grace I feel
With eyes that listen when my ears cannot
I see the world for what others do not.
