EYES IN FIREGLOW

cold breath held
sound of footfalls hangs,
gasp seals the steel gate
moth swirls the pane—your name thins —
embers blink


hazed bleak hush
doorway remains sealed,
limestone respires damp
my sword assuage its chisel —
mist veils light
