Notes About The Poem

Eye Blink

I blink my eyes, and I see you again.
The pain is gone. You once walked out my door.
After so many years, where have you been?

You look so beautiful, like way back when.
Your spirit and life are just like before.
I blink my eyes, and I see you again.

What path have you travelled in years since then?
Did you journey to a far distant shore?
After so many years, where have you been?

There's but an eye blink in the lives of men,
and sometimes, I ask, what is it all for.
I blink my eyes, and I see you again.

I lift up my eyes, and put down my pen
to look at the face that I so adore.
After so many years, where have you been?

Why did we part? It is beyond my ken.
I dumbly repeat and say one time more.
I blink my eyes, and I see you again.
After so many years, where have you been?

Hello David, I believe you captured something true here about how we carry people, how time collapses, how we're left with questions that don't have answers. Autumn Blessings, David, Daniel

Thanks, Daniel. I think I'm lost in time, sometimes.
