Expectations
We count on certain people
To do what they’re known to do
And then are disappointed if
They somehow don’t come through.
The organizers, shoppers, cooks,
The ones who plan things out –
We take a back seat, figuring
It’s done, without a doubt.
But sometimes someone doesn’t rise
To others’ expectations,
Which causes lacks and lapses
And potential complications.
We can’t assume that just because
A person’s somehow skilled
That he or she will be prepared
To have that role fulfilled.
