Expectations

We count on certain people To do what they’re known to do And then are disappointed if They somehow don’t come through. The organizers, shoppers, cooks, The ones who plan things out – We take a back seat, figuring It’s done, without a doubt. But sometimes someone doesn’t rise To others’ expectations, Which causes lacks and lapses And potential complications. We can’t assume that just because A person’s somehow skilled That he or she will be prepared To have that role fulfilled.

And the others … We are shocked when they actually DO come through! Such is life, … and you offer such genuine glimpses of it, Ilene, for which I and so many other readers thank you! ~ Gershon

How true your words! I consider myself a decent cook of good food and good wine. I also insist on guests arriving on time or slightly before. Some foods require last minute preparations (like gravies, etc.) for maximum flavor. When guests (it's always the same ones) arrive late, a tactful lecture is in order. If they don't see the point, I don't don't get to sit at my table for some time. In my house I rule! / M

This makes me smile. I remember once upon a time the PTA president stepped down, and 400 people waited an extra hour and a half for a potluck to begin, because no one else remembered to order the meat.
