Except Me

You just want to be my friend.
Will you stand by me through thick and thin?
Can I count on you to be there any hour night or day?
Do you care to know what I have to say?

I think I'm just a step in stone along life's way,
some how through through the everyday hassles
we must have slipped.
Sometimes you think I've flipped.
When to really get to know me
takes a lot of effort, caring and time.

You say things will be better than the next minute was.
Funny, I can't seem to see that far ahead.
Time you don't have for me.
I understand, so I'll set you free.
Funny how I can set everyone and everything free,
except me.
