Everyone Deserves a Chance

So many people come and go
Into your life with ebb and flow
Some stick around awhile it seems
Some live in memories and dreams

The higher standard we impose
On those we love, the friends we chose
Will meet our expectations thus
We hold them dear and close to us

It's just a shame that we don't give
A second look to those who live
Within our world and at arm's length
We think that we are showing strength

By never granting second chances
Not so much as furtive glances
We're losing out on humankind
The good in people we might find

So reach out with your other hand
Be the one who makes a stand
You might discover there is worth
In every person from their birth

You got me thinking, Deb. I guess it's true we hold onto friends who meet our expectations. But I'm big on second chances, third chances, etc. Truly there is worth in each person and sometimes we just overlook it. It would be nice if we looked a bit harder. Great entry for the contest and I wish you success. Love, Carolyn

What a wonderful message, and each one of us have made just quick judgements, so this poem is a wonderful reminder just what we may be missing in friendship. Well done, Deb!
