Evening Alone

Evening Alone

I sit here alone this evening
And watch as the shadows grow.
I look back on days of youth,
and forward to growing old

I think what I remember best,
Is my children as they grew.
The funny little things they did
And the discovery of things anew

I wiped away the tears,
And patched up little hurt knees
That’s what mothers do best,
Let them be young and free.

They’re all grown up and gone now,
With little ones of their own,
But it’s nice to think about them
As I spend this evening alone.
