Eulogy Poem
EULOGY POEM
I pick my pen up one last time
And thank God for the words that rhyme,
Amazing me when thoughts appear
That I express so free and clear.
For that one man who said to me,
“You have a talent, I can see,
Give it to God and you will find
So many thoughts will come to mind.”
I chose the name that says so well
How quickly words will come that tell
The story of a life well lived,
A message that someone would give,
A theme for something someone planned—
They all came from my writing hand.
And God’s the one to which I praise
For all this talent’s many ways,
For all it’s reached, for all it’s touched,
It’s what I thank Him for so much.
And now if my life here is o’er
And I am there on heaven’s shore,
It will not be because I’m good,
For I’ve never really understood
How God could stretch His love that day
On Calvary’s cross through Christ that way
And be so willing me to save
From such a life in sin depraved.
And through His mercy every day
Forgive me when I went astray.
All I can say now one more time
In words again that easily rhyme:
No matter what you think of me,
I hope that in my life you’ll see
That in this talent GOD is praised,
Not any of my poetic ways!
And some day soon I’ll see your face
Of you who trust now in His grace.
“The Ready Writer” says “Good night”
For my faith now has turned to sight.
(I hope this is not for any time soon!)
