Ethos

A conversation across virtual void
no response, chest tightening
waiting for a signal that one can't avoid
yet heartless and broken, one is waiting

False promises and false truths
the discerner knows only confusion
unbreakable by adept sleuths
with no available knowledge transfusion

Broken and heart aflame
doubts one remembers my name
sitting empty and confused
only sparks from what was a flame

Yearning yet hurt
understanding and sympathetic
only one's self placed first
if not called a heretic

Wrong if one cares for not himself
but for those who render him no heed
placed his heart on an empty shelf
truly thankless like his deeds

This is a heartfelt, emotionally direct poem that uses a consistent rhyme-driven structure to convey isolation, betrayal, and the ache of unanswered connection. The recurring imagery of a tightening chest, an empty shelf, and dwindling flame gives the speaker’s hurt a strong, tangible presence, while the reflective tone makes the final stanza especially affecting.
