Eternal Teardrops

She loved him dearly; many times she bled
The thought of parting piercing like a dart
The lifeless body ’cross her lap now spread
His head she cradles with most tender care
With acquiescence she avoids despair
Although there’s sorrow chiselled in her heart
And frozen teardrops waiting to be shed.

There is tender understanding of the emotions Mary must have gone through with the sacrificial death of her firstborn son. She knew from prophecy what was coming- "With acquiescence she avoids despair..." And the last two lines masterfully intimate at feelings unseen by the observer. So much brought to life of this incredible relationship, and the absolute trust they showed in the redeeming acts of God!
