Eternal Teardrops

She loved him dearly; many times she bled The thought of parting piercing like a dart The lifeless body ’cross her lap now spread His head she cradles with most tender care With acquiescence she avoids despair Although there’s sorrow chiselled in her heart And frozen teardrops waiting to be shed. ------------------------------------- Rhyming scheme: A-B-A-C-C-B-A Contest: Rhyme Time 6 Sponsor: Laura Loo Placed 1st © 24th August 2018

Hi Paul, thank you for directing me to your beautiful poem inspired by "La Pieta." There is tender understanding of the emotions Mary must have gone through with the sacrificial death of her firstborn son. She knew from prophecy what was coming- "With acquiescence she avoids despair..." And the last two lines masterfully intimate at feelings unseen by the observer. So much brought to life of this incredible relationship, and the absolute trust they showed in the redeeming acts of God! ((Hugs))AM

There is so much deep emotion in this poem, both mortal and immortal.. I can't help but feel that her eternal teardrops (tears of joy) will water the flower of their eternal life.. though your poem seems sad on the surface, you lovely and thought provoking title leads me towards bliss, Paul. A beautiful and tender piece my wonderful friend.. Warmest wishes and hugs always.. ~Susan

My friend, I couldn't help but think of the Kennedy assassination while reading your touching rhyme. It describes so tenderly to me the scene just after the shot was fired. I'm headed out with an appointment to address my problems, but was lucky to catch this first. Best wishes in the contest, Paul! Love, Carolyn

Yes, Carolyn, it could easily apply to the Kennedy assassination, though in my case it was Michelangelo's genius which inspired this. Thank you for being the first to comment. Hope your appointment will be more fruitful than previous ones. Love, paul
