Eternal Moments
There is a burden
Carried by time,
Both urgent and distant.
Its weight measured by
Seconds through centuries,
Never absent.
With passage is born
History, with legends
To become real.
Though the residue is
Often hidden, as secrets
Sheltered from appeal.
A future fiction may seek
Control, with a present need
In a traveled past.
As if it might correct some
Failed beginnings, and those
First . . . become last.
