Escaping

This dagger I hold before me
A glinting in the early light
One plunge and I will be free
To move on to my next fight

Bound by this useless flesh
I crave for sweet release
Free from this constricting mesh
I wish to seek my soul’s peace

Cutting crimson lines across
To stop this dull aching pain
Cutting through life’s false gloss
An end to this long campaign

A brief moment of burning
A fire across my skin
My body my spirit spurning
Free from deep within

Floating above my prison
I look down upon my cage
Now the my soul has risen
My life starts a new page
