Equality
As a child, my allegiance I pledged to a nation
That guarantees all shall be equal and free.
If this guaranteed freedom you deny to one person,
Then I insist that you also deny it to me.
For how can I feast while others are hungry?
How can I sing while my neighbors cry?
While others around me are crushed and downtrodden,
How can my spirit rise up and fly?
United we stand, e pluribus unum--
A people diverse, yet striving as one
To fashion a nation of freedom and justice,
Where Liberty basks in equality's sun.
