Entitled Knots

If I untied my thousand knots
and called your name out in the dark
would you reply with a wish and a smile
or silently back away in elegant style?
Where would you find another girl
who'd travel 1000 miles, even the world,
who you imagined would be your wife
sitting cross-legged, saying: "Tell me life!"?
Where would I find another you
who held me together when I came unglued,
who fed my imagination when I was ill
who swept me to higher ground against my will?
A voice like the back of my aging hand
the shadow of purity found in man
in a world where things special are crushed and dated
my heart clung to yours with it's breath abated.
If I untied my entitled knots
in the thick of my fire, would you breathe in hot?
Would you speak as the stars on the clearest of nights
and move them to sprinkle their heavenly lights?
I'm afraid that we've both lost our way,
call it a feeling of burnt out dismay
I'll sing you to sleep in my dreams tonight
as my knots pull my self control ever so tight...
