Enthusiasm in the Air

The runners run, New Yorkers cheer
And all are happy to be here.
Enthusiasm’s in the air;
We all pitch in to do our share.

We shout, we clap, we ring our bells
And output from the sidewalk swells
Each time a runner lifts his arms
To seek support from watching swarms.

Today, to ratchet up the vibe,
The sun beams down and I’d describe
This autumn weather as ideal
For all who cheer or run to feel.

I love this annual event
And from the crowds, it’s evident
That all who gather for this race
Will bask in this, New York’s embrace.

Remember Rosie Ruiz, who won the marathon and was the hero of the day? Later it was found out she entered the race in the middle or end. Time erases. I wonder what she’s up to today.

You know the Big Apple backwards and forwards Do you recall the other New York poet who used to write about New York all the time. I think his name was Matt Amish. Something like that. Sadly he passed away some years ago

I think his name was Matthew Anish. He and I often commented on each other's poems, but I never met him in person. Yes, he was a real New Yorker!
