Why do people gossip? Mostly because they either seek to be entertaining or they seek to be entertained. Either way it isn't good to be in their line of fire. Give people like that a wide berth.
Gossip is evil, It's base and it's cruel, And it comes in many disguises. It comes as concern, And it comes as a joke, And it claims reputations as prizes. It's a parasite, Depleting it's host, As well as the victim intended. Nothing is built, And nothing is gained, And little is ever mended. Those who know little, Often speak much, And those who are wise speak the least. Remember these words, And think 'fore you speak. It's best to just hold your peace.
