Notes About The Poem

End Times

When I was young
I foolishly thought that the religious
Were a bit crazy talking of End Times
And thought it was some kind of spiritual
Cosmic battle, like a Star Wars scene
They were imagining.
Now I know that while it’s certainly spiritual
It’s much more prosaic,
Much more physical and mundane
Because I can see it happening
With my very own eyes.

Girls and boys thinking they are boys and girls
And the adults agreeing and enabling it.
Beta boys and men competing against
Alpha girls and women
And taking home the gold medals and scholarships.
Naive and well meaning liberals
Opening their borders to an invasion
Of aliens who have no desire to assimilate,
Or even get along.
Women killing their babies
And other women applauding out of solidarity
For simply being a woman.
Children killing humans just because,
They always wondered what it felt like.
AI taking the place of learning and thinking
Being treated like a dishwasher, indispensable
For basic tasks it is indispensable for humans
To actually learn.

These are the things that signal the end
Of order, the rise of chaos,
The end of civilizations
And all the time it took to build them.
These are the signs of the times
The end of something known
But now disregarded
And the beginning of something unknown
Blindly wished for
And embraced
By a self destructive race,
Storming the gates, yet
So ignorant of the actual Heaven,
Hell bent on making its own way
Out of Earth.

I feel much the same way, James. Although I realize that part of my feeling is due to my own soon-to-be exit. ~ Gershon

At a certain point it comes to, “Beam me up Scotty.”
