End of My Valley

My valley of dreams is burning and broke It’s ripped at the seams, by the words that were spoke The anger a flame burning hotter than hell Incinerating my dreams and my hopes as well Standing amidst the black charred remains The destruction enough to drive me insane The trees of my life burned to dead wood The green and the grass nothing but mud The river has dried down to a stony bed The sound of that water still runs in my head The sun still shines but it burns my white skin There’s no dappled green shade to hide myself in No more birds or bees to flutter with life Nothing to console through such terrible strife As I wander through my desolate terrain My beating heart starts to feel such pain This valley I loved lies dead and consumed The dream that I had can’t be resumed I drop to my knees and touch the black earth Hope above hope I’ll find something of worth A layer of charred black ash like a skin Is hiding my rich brown soil within Hope sparks with this dirt in my hand Bright like a star that dared to land A long road I face of both toil and shame But my valley will be lush and green again As I kneel in the black I sow the first seed With hope my valley can again be freed
