Empty Hearts

Precious promises we discarded
so slowly one at a time
until our hearts were empty
a smile we couldn't find

Those warm moments
meant to always cherish
gradually disappeared
so subtle did they perish

Finally no longer could we pretend
as we sadly looked around
our love had vanished
quietly left without a sound

Your title grabbed me and the poem is very thought provoking. The "warm moments" perished and it is like the love was never quite there in the first place, as it had totally vanished after the passing of time.
