Emigrant

EMIGRANT

The wake stretched from the bow
Back towards the narrow, choked
Canal systems of Europe.
Goodbye to endless locks now.

We were ready for the new start.

Over the damp taffrail - foam.
The sea was huge and empty.
And ahead lay the United States
And home.
