The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide

Embers That Still Breathe

Neither faint, fading light
     nor weak, half-hearted heat
now lends warmth to the veins
     or hastens the heartbeat;

     lame flame has long died down,
          seems nothing left but ash;
     long strips of burnt shadows
          in wan moonlight awash;

           memories' charred debris,
                there, maybe underneath,
           can be coaxed back to life,
                old embers that still breathe!
