eloquent birds

eloquent birds
pass my eyes
the sky heavy
full-bellied pregnant
and hailstorm green
it lifts
their wings
signing
singing
other worlds away
heart beats
up and down
down and up
notes written
the clouds ripening
ready to burst
will spill
like a dam
notes beat
down and up
up and down
two-in-two
written
like a heart
across
a boxed-in
tumbling
storm cloud sky
and the
boats racing
sail on by
and the child
inside inside inside
like a ghost
cries, cries, cries
down and up
up and down
eloquent birds
pass my eyes
their wings
singing
signing
heart beats away
up and down
down and up
up and down
rain drops fall
like warm tears
descending
the cheeks
of windows
notes written
across a boxing
storm cloud sky
unboxing
red ribbons
the present
rising chords
like violet notes
taken in their
freedom beaks
above it all
and the boats racing
sail on by
two-on-two
under the eyes
of emeralds
boxing ghosts
shadowed blue
