Egress
Open to my heart, I cannot hide,
The trembling truth that bids me near,
I walk through silence, side by side
With love that conquers doubt and fear.
I can only hope that you are good,
That mercy lingers in your eyes,
For I have given all I could,
And staked my faith on gentle skies.
Because I love you—yet I know
The risk of placing all in one,
The heart may break, the years may go,
And shadows dim the tender sun.
Still, hope endures though fear may press—
Through love alone, I find egress.
