Eggshells
I've written this for a dear friend who is struggling with someone who is unkind and disrespectful. But I think there are many of us who have experienced this kind of situation from people who claim to be our friends.
Please let's all try to be present and mindful of our behaviour. The words we speak can truly harm far more than some weapons and can do lasting psychological and emotional damage.
Stay safe and take care. Remember that you deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and kindness.
Eggshells

I work myself up
To meet you again
You're supposed to be decent
For you claim to be my friend
But here I go again
Walking on eggshells around you
You're unkind and disrespectful
And seem to enjoy being brutal
I step outside myself
Try to pull my shell around me
But should I really have to brace myself
Every time you're blunt or mean?
I wonder if you reflect upon
Your cruel words and deeds?
I wonder if you'd notice
If I disappeared from this scene?
Everyone deserves kindness
Dignity and respect
I shouldn't have to accept this
Live these moments I regret
I thought we were friends
But perhaps I was mistaken
I think I'll slip away now
Leave you in the darkness you're embracing
