Easter Speaks 2
When very young, Easter had at least two meanings.
One meaning was for kids; the other for all mankind.
One meaning spoke to me about Easter Bonnies and about
eggs that we hide and seek to find. It spoke to me about
getting pretty new cloths to be worn on Easter Sunday.
The other meaning said that a good man was crucified.
They even called the day he was crucified 'Good Friday'.
It took me a while to understand what was good about it.
Since childhood, Easter has spoken to me in a myriad of ways.
And when she speaks, I am compelled to set up and listen.
Easter now speaks to me about Jews and Romans.
About a governor and a king who were once enemies but
became friends; both of whom could never be accused as
'fault finders'. About corrupted religious systems using
the Roman political system to do its dirty work. About
mobs, murders, and thieves. About cooked up charges and
kangaroo courts. About betrayal, money, jealousy, envy, pride,
power, and corruption. About forgiveness, mercy, and pardon.
It really amazes me how Easter speaks to me about a man
name Jesus who went to paradise and took a repentant thief
with him. About fearful and disloyal followers of Jesus who
later became fearless warriors for Christ and his cause.
