Early Morning In Manhattan

Eight million people living here Yet on my morning walk, Deserted streets provided Not a thing at which to gawk. Behind each window there were souls In various routines – Asleep or in the shower Or engaged in breakfast scenes. I marveled at the emptiness In such a busy place Where no one moseys, but proceeds At a frenetic pace. Yet not in early morning For it might as well have been Any tiny U.S. city As the huge one I was in.

A nice portrait of the quiet side of Manhattan. Have you read the O. Henry stories about your town? I find them charming, as I also find your poetry. ~ John

I always found lots to see - birds, insects, vehicles - a world filled with strange creatures trying to find a pigeon hole - but don't get me started on pigeons! Another great write! Mahalo! Rico

If your morning walk takes you past a working EarthCam, and you give me notice, I could gawk at you on your morning walk.

I once traveled the GS Parkway either New Years or Thanksgiving around 2:00 am. It felt like the whole world was mine.

I'd rather walk in Manhattan when the streets are packed, not when they're empty. Not a place I'd want to be in. As for French food, it's true, the more expensive eateries are nigaardly, though average bistros portions are have bigger portions. Seconds for bread are free but not croissants. If you order bif steak you'll be insulted: it's a very small piece, probably 3 ounches; the same is true of a piece of lamb, fish, and chicken or turkey. To fill up order at least two side dishes. /

It amazes me how you can often find a deserted area in a city and they don't come any bigger than Manhatten, reminded me when I went to Venice and we found a small park hardly anyone in it they were all in St Marks Square. Tom
