Each Sadly Out of Date

I have 20,080 magazines and 400 books.

Each sadly out of date as soon as a reader takes a good look.

My house is full of them, in disturbing crannies and armchair crooks.

Spider webs are hanging off some near the ceiling, like grappling hooks.

I would let you come around and go through them, take a giant courtesy look

But I'm embarrassed by the multitude of out-of-date magazines and books.

Well-done, Caren! When I hit the big 6-0 (I'm 66 now), I started gradually getting rid of old magazines and a lot of other stuff I'd pointlessly held on to for ages. Why? Well, I had a vivid mental image of my daughter and son-in-law coming here after I'm gone, shaking their heads, and saying, "How could she do this to us??!" LOL--Janice

Janice, we are exactly the same age. I turned 66 in May. I just have to do this, because some day no one is going to spend the time to "look" because they are going to be overwhelmed. So it is really up to me as it is my mess that I have created.

Haha, you're a hoarder like me, can't bear to throw stuff away, when we moved I had to be ruthless, it was like someone had died lol

I have to pretend that I have died, and say to myself, "How fast would the kids throw this stuff?" and pretend that I am my children. Some day they will thank me profusely for what I am doing for them now.

oh caren. You really have them out like that? You gotta store them away!! I had hundreds of books. Finally I threw 1/3 of them away and put the others up on bookshelves in my living room. I have read less than half of them all becuase when VCR came around, I had to keep up with movies and shows! Anyway, you will have much company if power goes out in the world and nothing to do again but READ! Love your honesty here.

Thank you Andrea. It's as if I can throw away everything but the printed word.

Thank you. I have been going through a garage, and am horrified at the amount of tubs I have that are full of magazines and or books.
