Duty Does Call

Duty Does Call Veterans are people who represent us all As each and every day of duty does call Fighting for freedom defending out land Ensuring all is properly planned and manned. They lean against their rifles as they pray Then under a tank or vehicle sleep or lay Adequately serving to cover their head And continually being cold in their bed. Cries of tears come to each of their eyes An anguished felling makes them realize War has been hell and will never forget And out all their emotions they now let. Back home, people for them will be waiting While they still have been contemplating Should they reenlist or go back to school All of their resources together must pool. Military experience makes minds expand Still worry who can give them a hand After back to civilian life they have been Who would want to do it all over again? James Thomas Horn Retired Veteran

Thanks and did you understand what I meant about PS and Prior Service. The words unsung heroes keep rolling around in my mind. There are still so many of them ought there trapped in a world of conflict and frustration. No matter which way you turn or what you say will ever be completely You can satisfy some of the people some of the time but never all of the people all of the time it seems like I read somewhere. Yes, fairly sure I did. Ricky Nelson's song , Garden Party, comes to mind my friend. His famous line in that song about --'can't please everybody , so I just learned to please myself" always struck me as great, poetic and a solid truth.

I truly love this GREAT tribute to military veterans my friend. You sir, without a doubt have a true poet's heart and great talent. I thank you for your service and for your writes present here at the Soup for others to enjoy. War is hell and those that served always deserve far more credit than they get!

I too write down at least two poems a day to keep the old feeling going. Others I type on the comp keyboard but it doesn't feel nearly as good as writing on paper does. Keep on writing amigo! It is a generous thing to write and then present to others to help brighten their day, inspire them or just for their entertainment. My hope is that my write helps the reader in some way. I read your great poems and they help me in several ways. I thank you sincerely for that!! Your comments are appreciated my friend!
