Duerme Bien, Querido

"Duerme bien, Querido," she would often think as she would watch him lay asleep. "Duerme bien, Querido," she would say to him in lieu of "Good Night" routinely. "Duerme bien, Querido," she now says to him in lieu of "Rest In Peace." "Duerme bien, Querido," she says on her knees at his grave where she often weeps. "Duerme bien, Querido," or "Sleep Well Beloved" are the words she had engraved on the headstone of "Su Amado's" or "Her Beloved's" grave.

Usually after logging on to Soup, I check my favorites and pick a few to read usually their latest two or three. I thought today, well I'll check Billy again before my next cup of coffee. "Duerme bien" is the treasure I found by reading on. You deeply struck a place in my heart that I used to think no one else understood. I've learned I'm not unique; instead one of many. Thank you for writing this short quiet poem of grief (I like short)

One Deluvina Maxwell was my inspiration. Deluvina Maxwell was a mother figure to Billy the Kid. She would always say it to him when retiring for the evening and most likely thought it when she'd see him sleeping, and on the day of his burial she knelt down and placed a small wooden cross on his grave. "Duerme bien Querido" on that small cross was engraved.
