Ducks In the Pond

8/16/10

Around and around
I go spinning in circles
How could I forget?

The way forward comes
It startles me every time
Looking backwards now

It was November
I was making lists, again
Planning for the trip

Looking at a pond
Small ducklings were lining up
Following mother

Mine are all full grown
It was my time to wander
But it has been hard

Now they are circling
Finding their way in the world
I am missing them

I know they are strong
But still needing some support
I want to go home

I wait for the ducks
Lining up in the still pond
Which direction now?

The waiting is hard
Self-doubt challenging me now
Numb feet take small steps

Breathing in and out
I challenge the cold, dry, cough
Far across the pond

The mist curls my hair
Shakey self-esteem rattles
The bones are fragile

I have learned to see
Life's obstacles repeating
Pushing back the fear

I hand it over
To the "inner duck" swimming
Slowly, but surely

sad write today... we all face times of low self esteem and have to build ourselves back up... especially after loss. did you intend toleave such a gap in between the verses?
