Drummer Boys

Two drummer boys rapped out a beat,
As bitter cold froze hands and feet
Both boys in war afraid to die
   True battle favours flying high
Praying to live, until day's done.
Dark angry clouds block out the sun.
With blood now seeping from the dead,
Their call of duty bringing dread.
One drummer boy beats out retreat.
But victory was not so sweet.
Two drummer boys, they carried on,
Both drums in time, for lives now gone.
A tribute to, the brave now slain,
   And wounded soldiers who remain.
Two drummer boys both sharing grief
Their war for glory, no relief.
Those two brave boys will never meet.
Both drummer boys rapped out a beat.
They died amid the battles noise,
Two heroes now, two drummer boys.

Thanks for Two Drummer Boys, and your comments on one of my poems. Yes, when I started writing stuff about 2 years ago it was in rhymed couplets. I still like doing it that way. At 64 I am learning everyday when I take time to write. My best to you and keep on writing!

Hello Brian, thankyou for visiting my site and giving me support. I have only started to write poetry since i retired one year ago. I am almost 75 so it was time to give up my trade as carpenter. Once again many thanks. George.
