Dreaming of Sailing

The waves crashed on the once tranquil shore,

The ocean bellowed its deafening roar.

The youngster ran along the sandy beach

Staying just beyond the water’s reach.

Mom was watching from just steps away

As the child continued his carefree play.

Off in the distance was sighted the mast

Of a vessel as she sailed peacefully past.

On her way to who knows where

Drawing from the crowd a curious stare.

So majestic she appeared to the observant eye,

Silhouetted against the evening sky.

As day finally came to an end,

Calling a halt to a time of pretend,

The youngster reluctantly ended his yearning

And found himself to his home returning.
