Dreamcatcher
I heard you saw the Sandman slip
his dust into my eyes,
and that you thanked him for the deed
before he left my side.
I heard you caught the Boogieman
while I was tucked in bed,
and that you kept his fiendish friends
from gath'ring round my head.
I heard you saw my mother switch
my tooth with something round:
this quarter 'neath my pillow that
I just this morning found.
I heard you told the monster 'neath
my bed it wasn't right--
to startle me, or any kid,
so very late at night.
I heard you captured all the fears
that usually make me wake in tears
by letting all the nightmares near
then casting out your net.
It's you who made them disappear;
for that, I'm glad we met.
I doubt that I could sleep at all
without you watching from my wall.
