Dream Diversion

A child cries in the deepest hours of night
As a parent stumbles from the bed, to the door
The waking scream works so better than a light
Yet the parent still tripped on something on the floor
A scream from the adult was a shriek of true pain
As the struggle to reach the child took longer than thought
Oh, why did the child have to awaken this night, again?
What? T’is but a dream, had awakened for naught
