Dream and Dream

little porcelain fingers
delicately turn the pages
as silently she is
mouthing all her favorite parts
of this piece she knows by heart

go on, grace all the earth
I will trace your footsteps
as they fall

out on the front porch
an evening breeze lifts all the leaves
into the sky
where her old man told her
angel, you’re getting awfully tall

go on, raise your sails
the winds of time will bring you
back to me

her bedtime prayers already said
the moon and stars kissed her goodnight
and bid her
close your eyes now, sleepyhead
until the morning

go on, dream and dream
of all the precious means of life
and loving
