It was based on the actual words of a Japanese torpedo aviator who was remembering the attack.

I was stationed on Ford Island. It was surreal standing, waiting for the boat to take us from the Island. It made me think of those who had no idea the morning of Dec 7, 1941 that they were about to be bombed. God bless.

Thank you. When I heard the Japanese veteran say this in a documentary on remembering Pearl Harbor, it struck a cord with me.
