Dove Love

The shell of life has broken
And released him to the dawn
Mother dove is smiling
At the beauty of her spawn

She plucks a feather from her wing
And lays it in the nest
She pulls her baby close to her
And holds him to her breast

A gentle coo of love escapes
And settles in her ear
She rubs her beak behind his neck
And wipes away his fears

His eyes are barely open
So he struggles hard to see
The face of love that sits above
And makes him feel so free

She looks down at her abound
She ruffles once or twice
She fluffs it up, she makes it soft
She makes it feel so nice

She knows she'll have to watch him leave
As seasons come to pass
Just like she did a year ago
She still recalls the last

But till that day she'll line her nest
With downy feathered love
Until the time she sees her child
Fly the skies above
