a mourning dove coos
 matins of morning glories ~
  sweet bird song wakes dawn

first light serenades

Beautiful imagery, alliteration & onomatopoeia, Sam. I feel the softness of dawn in your poem. My view though is that birdsong & dawn comes simultaneously, so it is sight & sound together. Though senses work together only when brain has integrated two, otherwise there are split seconds between. Your format with this haiku flows well & play on “mourning” interesting: what was dove mourning? Perhaps leaving of nighttime...matins of morning glories is an excellent phrase because of colour of morning glories : reveille is normally used as a trumpet call : so you’ve turned around cooing- into a more provocative sound > makes for clever juxtaposition. Well done, Sam.

Sun rise reveille reminds me that in boot camp, the company commander would recite “ reveille, reveille, ladies, it’s time to wake up!
