Doom and Gloom

Our society may be crumbling before our eyes As foundational structures change dramatically, Families are not cohesive units as they used to be Seldom we experience those extended family ties. Sunday church attendance is at an all-time low; Non-religious stats show fewer people in the pews And the news media is often less news than views, Amusement parks are the Sunday “in” places to go. Educational systems are constantly under attack By parents who want control over what is taught As COVID rages, new teaching methods are sought And our healthcare systems are sadly out of whack. Our federal government is an ineffective nightmare With partisan divisiveness the order of the day, So, honorable leaders don’t want to enter the fray And larger numbers of citizens polled no longer care. Since the mid-nineties, we’ve been seeing gloom Talk of zombies, disasters, killings, even Apocalypse The economy always seeming to teeter on collapse It’s hard not falling into the habit of predicting doom.

I have to say I am starting to turn my own back on these money-grubber-money-changers who vote each time for whoever pays them the most. "Our federal government is an ineffective nightmare With partisan divisiveness the order of the day, So, honorable leaders don’t want to enter the fray And larger numbers of citizens polled no longer care." That is right!

I am feeling the same way, Caren. Unless we get some new blood and reasonable people who can't be bought into our legislative branch of government (and other branches, too), we are in big trouble. But the next generation has to solve this problem. Obviously, my generation didn't, or couldn't!

Sad that church attendance is low. My church is very much alive, loving, caring and teaching, not to mention serving. I’ve been there for 1 1/2 years. The best church I’ve ever been too and for such a time as this. Humbling the way they looked out for me when my mom was sick with cancer and they outdo me in so many ways that I want to learn to serve as they do. Sermons are full of scripture and the Holy Spirit is felt in a powerful way. Prayers for our country to return to the Lord!

Sounds like those folks are doing something right, Kim. I'm glad you found this congregation.

The GOP has just banned its Members from participating in presidential debates because Trump is the voice of the GOP, and government should be "of the Party, by the Party, and for the Party". Meanwhile, USA's health rankings tumble to the bottom of developed nations. Religion responds by urging everyone to pray, and industry responds by hiring Chinese with cyber skills to help us transform schools into shooting galleries and determine who should wear a facemask. Fun write, Milton!

Thanks, Rico. I was most anxious to read the responses to this piece. I think sharing of opinions can be a good thing if it is done respectfully.

Sadly, this is true to and spot on. Amazing what can happen in a couple of decades. Great write, Milton.

Yes, it is. I've really notice big differences in our society over the past two decades. It seems like the degeneration of our culture is happening more rapidly; however, that could be my imagination. I don't know. Interesting, anyway.
