Don Zimmer

Crying because
he was knocked
    down
        not the athlete
he once was
   the onrush of
the years has changed
this old warrior
He charged out of the dugout
   was knocked
down to the cold earth
Crying for the
shame of it
Crying for baseball
Crrying for himself
Don - you've been
fighting for a long time
you needn't
feel shame
Just show the young players
     and young fans
how a baseball
      veteran
      should conduct
himself
  win or lose
It's the game that
matters - the game of baseball

Beautiful sentiment, a lesson all should learn, and no, he has nothing be be ashamed of. Well written. ~Trudy~
