Dolphins
Ripples upon the water
Followed by a sudden splash
Out of the corner of my eye
All I saw was a shiny gray flash
Patiently waiting for it to emerge
So I can confirm just what I saw
Suspecting there was two of them
But wondering if there was more
Then just as before out of the water they shot
Twisting and diving back in
Making a noise almost a laugh
Around us they started to swim
Reaching out into the water
Wanting them to come up near
We patted their heads while they laughed at us
And we knew we had nothing to fear
They stayed and played with us for a while
Loving all of our attention
It was amazing to us just how much
These dolphins enjoyed the affection
Time passed and it's like they knew
It was time for them to go
So with a huge leap and wave of their tail
They swam away in the water below
