Does Death Knock
we cannot bargain with death,
a breath more or a breath less,
neither a knock on the door,
to answer or to ignore.
unseen, silent appears by,
no hellos no friendly hi,
can’t broker with it a deal,
nor barter wealth nor appeal!
build a house, may buy a car,
cant lock it out or run far,
cant brag your power or state,
when time’s up death’s never late!
mansions and fields you may own,
But time it will never loan,
no tricks you have death to charm,
so yield to it and stay calm!
see life in context of death,
true wealth lies in every breath,
when in last silence we lay,
think how life wasted away!
Life is a gift to cherish,
few decades ere we perish,
waste it not in futile chase,
earn wisdom and moral grace.
