Do You Want To Be a Teacher

I’d love to be a teacher If they’d just let me teach But teaching students now a days Is so far out of reach You need to be a lawyer So you don’t get sued You need to be their mother To curb their attitude You have to be a writer For all reports you write You have to keep your own thoughts Completely out of sight You have to teach for test scores You have to let them pass You have to have a thick skin To put up with their sass You have to be a room cop Lest things get out of hand You have to know the state tests Then teach just to that plan And you do it all for peanuts There’s no money to be made And after just a few weeks Your enthusiasm fades And the icing on this “teacher’s cake” Is really awfully thin You have to fight the system Knowing you can’t win Yes, I’d love to be a teacher And teach kids what I know But with all that other crap thrown in I’d have to answer – “NO” Mdailey 10/27/11

you have really nailed the truth about teaching! bravo! i speak from experience and i know exactly what you are talking about. i like your rhyme very much, too. one little point, though - i think you mean "lest things get out of hand" instead of "less."

Thank you for catching the missing T - sometime we rely too much on spell check to catch things that we don't see the obvious errors of our ways.
